“The 2014 Tesla Model X is a premium-midsize SUV derived from the automaker’s all-electric Model S premium-midsize hatchback sedan. The 3-row, 7-passenger crossover will be available with rear-drive or “Dual Motor” all-wheel drive and a choice of two plug-in battery arrays. According to the company’s Website, production will begin late in calendar ’13 and “significant” deliveries in early 2014.

Pricing has yet to be determined, but we estimate that Model Xs will cost at least 10 percent more than comparable S sedans that start at $67,400 and $77,400 before the $7,500 federal tax credit on electric-vehicle (EV) purchases. If we’re right, the SUV will open at around $74,000 and $85,000 with rear drive and some $95,000 with AWD, again excluding tax credits and other incentives….”
