Overview On The Four Ford SUV Models Available:
The 2011 Ford Escape is the smallest of the four models and provides seating for five people. It is powered by a 2.5L Duratec engine and is available as a front-wheel drive or 4-wheel drive. This vehicle, with an automatic transmission, achieves and its estimated 21 miles per gallon city and 28 miles per gallon highway. To improve on those numbers the Escape is also available as a hybrid. This would increase fuel economy to 34 miles per gallon city and 31 miles per gallon highway. The Escape also has a towing capacity of 3500 lbs. Pricing for this vehicle starts at MSRP $20,995 and the hybrid version starts at MSRP $30,890.
The 2011 Ford Explorer provides seating for 6-7 people and it is powered by a 3.5L TiVCT engine and 6-speed automatic transmission. The estimated fuel consumption is 17 miles per gallon city and 25 miles per gallon highway. The maximum towing capacity is 5000 lbs. The Ford Explorer is very comparable to many popular brands of SUVs. There are three models available with the first being the Explorer, then the XLT and Limited. Each upgrade adds improved features and technologies. Starting MSRP for the Explorer is $28,190.
The 2011 Ford Sport Trac is an SUV type that resembles a 4-door truck. It has seating for 5 and is powered by a 4.0L SOHC engine and 6-speed automatic transmission. The estimated mpg for the Sport Trac is 14 in the city and 20 on the highway. The primary distinction for this option is the cargo box located behind the cab. This box is roughly 4ft by 4ft with a depth of 21 inches. The towing capacity is nearly 7000 lbs. and pricing starts at MSRP $29,025.
The 2011 Ford Expedition is by far the largest of the Ford SUV models. There is seating for 5-8 people. The Expedition is powered with a 5.4L SOHC V8 engine and a towing capacity up to 15,000 lbs. with an optional heavy-duty trailer towing package. Conventional towing is up to 12,000 lbs. This SUV has eight models to choose from beginning with the XL that has an MSRP of $37,070, and climbing to the King Ranch EL with an MSRP of $49,200. The estimated fuel economy is 14 miles per gallon city and 20 miles per gallon highway for all models of the Expedition.
